Blazers to Call Up Anthony Tolliver

The Trail Blazers were awarded a "hardship exception" yesterday and it appears that they will use it immediately on D-Leaguer Anthony Tolliver.  The coverage started late last night or early this morning, whichever you prefer... reports...
The Trail Blazers, who were awarded yesterday the option to sign a 16th player to their roster, will give a contract today to Anthony Tolliver, sources told Tolliver, a 6-foot-9 forward with good shooting skills, played with the San Antonio Spurs for two months last season and also had a 10-day stint with the New Orleans Hornets. He was currently playing in the NBDL with the Idaho Stampede, where he was averaging 20.7 ppg and 9.9 rebounds and shooting 43 percent from three-point land.

Tolliver is expected to be in uniform Thursday night against Phoenix.
Wendell Maxey with a scouting report...
Tolliver, a 6-foot-9 forward who went undrafted out of Creighton University in 2007, was playing for the Idaho Stampede, Portland’s affiliate in the NBDL. He was averaging 20.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 43% from beyond the arc.

A solid shooter that showed off his skills playing overseas in Germany, Tolliver spent two months with the San Antonio Spurs, saw time with the Austin Toros and Iowa Energy of the D-League before landing a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Hornets. After that, it was back overseas where Tolliver played in the Turkish League before signing with the Stampede this season.
You can check out his D-League stat sheet here and at first glance, appears to be the the real the D-League anyway.

Who knows how much he'll play or how long he'll even be around, but at least the team can have full practices now.  Yay!

About This Blog

This Portland Trail Blazers blog definitely isn't your basic "recap/report the news" kind of blog. We tend to lean a little to the sporadic and unsystematic side of this young and sexy basketball team. Oh, and you'll definitely see a lot of Blazer Dancer action around here, so bring your bucket of ice.
