Blazer Dancers Invade China!

Nice to see that our beloved Blazer Dancers also get some work in the off-season.  They headed to China to see the sights, perform a little, and even pose with...Jordan Farmar?  I'm sure there is some Portland city ordinance that forbids anyone from posing with and Lakers players plus their Championship trophy.  Nice one!

And We're Back!

I can't even explain how nice the last 2 weeks were...

The NBA's off-season is pretty tough to cover especially since I'm not into loading you up with a ton of filler and summer workout snoozefests.  The regular season just needs to get here...NOW.

I'm assuming that I haven't missed much, but if I have, please let me know!

Clyde Drexler Interview - Honored for Dream Team 1992

Our boy Ryan over at Hoops Addict sent us this interview he just ran with Clyde Drexler that you all must check out.

Clyde was in Chicago recently with the rest of the 1992 Dream Team as they were all honored for being a part of one of the most amazing teams in the history of basketball.  It sounds like a giant 3D mural was unveiled of the entire team which is pretty damn cool.  Definitely a full 5 minutes worthy of your time.

Portland Trail Blazers New 2009-10 Uniforms?

I know I just got done saying goodbye for 2 weeks and then this nice picture was launched on Twitter...

Apparently these are the uni's you'll see your boys wearing all season long.  Hmmm...

I'm down with the red, retro look but what's with the white jersey spamming "Rip City" cross the chest?  Sure, it's a nice slogan that's stuck with the team forever, but does it really need to be plastered on the front of the jersey?  I love the overall look of the whites, but having "Rip City" on the front is just a little weird.

And it looks like you can already pre-order one of these bad boys if you'd like! Available October 1st!

The Blaze of Love Vacation

It's middle August, the NBA season is just a few short months away and it's time for us to run off on vacation for a couple of weeks.  Plus, there is absolutely nothing Blazer-related to talk about except for Batum's shoulder, Martell's foot, and season preview/speculation and thoughts. (Which we absolutely hate.)

When the BoL crew returns, we'll have bachelor'd downtown Portland like none other, hopefully played a ton of golf, and officially tied the knot.

So over the next 2 weeks you may not see a ton of action unless we cut away the leash from the abundance of family in town and drop some Blazer news on ya.  Hopefully we'll toss out a couple of tweets from the actual night of vows if relevant...is it wrong to wear a Brandon Roy jersey under my wedding-day suit?

See you all soon!

Wisdom of a Man - Greg Oden

Guest post written by Linda, a fan of the BoL, Blazers and obviously GO.

Okay, he’s not exactly the Denzel of Portland, but Greg Oden still has a special place in our hearts. Despite many skeptics out there, Oden has been showing improvement during his Ohio-based training and in the Men’s National minicamp.

At only 21-years of age, although critics continuously cite his 47-year-old appearance, Greg the Gargantuan has had a career’s worth of injuries.

Oden missed his entire rookie season due to a knee injury that required surgery. And just when you thought it was safe, boom, his foot was injured and he missed 21 games. Multiple injuries are not at all uncommon for a big man, but Oden tends to get hurt long before he begins playing at an NBA level. Even in college with Ohio State, Oden suffered a wrist injury and had to shoot opposite-handed.

Management and coaches have Oden on a strict workout and diet regimen. They expect the center to drop some 20 pounds before season’s start. The good news is that, in Ohio to train, Oden is focused on reaching his goal.

This can be great news for the Blazers’ upcoming season. Instead of eating cheetos and blowing his money on blackjack, Greg seems committed to getting in shape and staying healthy for a season.

When Portland drafted the grossly-hyped Ohio State superstar, everyone expected big things. After his initial injury and subsequent mediocre season, the expectations turned back to straw. Oden has stated that he wishes to prove a dominant force in the NBA and give people reason to cheer.

This new and improved attitude shows that Greg has finally gotten over the immaturity that plagues most rookies. If he can keep up with his wisdom, aligning actions with rhetoric, fellow players and fans alike should be in for a big treat.

Brandon Roy - Color Purple - Nike Trainer 1

Gotta love these new Nike Trainer 1's that athletes keep personalizing.  I'm pretty sure Brandon Roy already had personalized colorway when they initially dropped, but on July 31st, he came out with his latest and a little video describing this Nike ID version.  Check it out...MVP!

And I apologize if you saw this a week or so ago...it's still a great spot.

Jerryd Bayless Q&A - Talks Playing Time and Dre Miller

One of our favorite hoops sites on the internet had a chance to chat up Jerryd Bayless at the Adidas Nations Camp in Dallas earlier today.  They covered a few different topics, but really focused on the Andre Miller signing,  Jerryd's role or lack-there-of going into the 2009-10 season plus life in the NBA.
Dime: When you first heard about the Miller signing, what was your reaction?
JB: I thought it could be a good learning experience for me. I just gotta take it for what it’s worth and learn from it. Andre Miller’s a great point guard, so it’ll only help me get better.

Dime: Off the court, how was the transition going from college to the NBA lifestyle?
JB: It went well. I’m still figuring things out, like figuring out what to do to take up all the free time you have. You gotta continue to stay busy because there’s a lot of distractions out there. So far I’ve just been working out a lot, getting ready for the season.
Make sure to check out the rest of the interview over at DIME.

Make it Official - Brandon Roy Agrees to 5 Year Extension with Portland

Please take a minute to suck in a deep gust of air as Brandon Roy has officially agreed to a 5 year deal with "your" Portland Trail Blazers.  The deal, as rumored for the past week, is a 4 year deal with a player option on the 5th year worth upwards of $82 million.

It's unfortunate that Twitter is down as I'm writing this post, because it'll be nice to finally NOT see the "Awoj heard from a source that he's agreed with a press conference tomorrow!" spam that was obviously false.  We all knew he had verbally agreed to a deal, but the awesomeness that is Adrian Wojnarowski just had to take it all a step further guaranteeing everyone a press conference today.  It's all laughable.

Maybe Kevin Pritchard should take 5 minutes today and write a blog post about the "Brandon Roy Contract Story Winners and Losers" with a special 12 paragraph section pointing out how wrong "Awoj" has been this entire time.

Nike Global Challenge Returns to Portland - August 7-9

This release seems a little late as the 7th of August is only 2 days away, but at least you got it, right?  Our lack of attendance at this year's event can be solely blamed on the beautiful ladies of En Vogue who have called out to us from the ever-classy Spirit Mountain Casino.  We'll also be frequenting the wine garden at the Bite of Oregon on Saturday and cheering on some posse members during Sunday's Bridge Pedal which as you can tell, leaves us no time for showboating/spamming high school basketball.

The 3rd Annual Nike Global Challenge Returns to Liberty High School!

On Friday, August 7th the 2009 Nike Global Challenge returns to Liberty High School for three days of international competition featuring the top 30 American high school players battling the International elite from across the globe! The American teams will be broken down into 3-regional teams of 10 US Players per roster. The eight-team tournament is the culmination of the summer basketball season consisting of a variety of Nike Skills Academies in the United States, and various leagues and academies abroad. Players from the United States team are chosen based on their performance at the LeBron James Nike Skills Academy and / or the preceding positional skill academies with NBA stars Vince Carter, Paul Pierce, Amar’e Stoudemire and Deron Williams.

The International teams will be represented by FMP Serbia Club, Brazil, Canada, Senegal and the All-Asia Camp team. FMP Serbia won their second consecutive EuroLeague junior championship that was held in conjunction with the EuroLeague Final Four in Berlin last May. Brazil is represented by their Under-19 National Team, while Team Canada consists of the top players in Canada selected by Nike Canada, along with Senegal’s SEED’s academy team. Rounding out the field is Team All-Asia Camp consisting of players from China, Korea and Australia. These players were selected based on past performances at the Nike All-Asia Camp.

Tournament Schedule

The Nike Global Challenge begins each day at 2:00pm with games running every 2 hours. There are four games per day and each ticket is good for four games. Single session tickets are only $5.00 with 3 Day Tournament Passes available for $15.00. Tickets will be available at the Liberty High School Box Office during the event or are available online at www.nikeglobalchallenge.com.

Thoughts on the 2009-10 Blazers Schedule

We just tossed up the post showing the entire Trail Blazers schedule for the 2009-10 season which you should definitely check out if you haven't already.

Got any initial thoughts on it?  We sure as hell do...

1.  November...too easy?  Don't be surprised to see the Blazers with 14 or 15 wins on November 30th.  Remember all that talk about "most difficult in the NBA" last year?  That definitely isn't the case to start the 2009-10 campaign.  Although, that 9 day road trip will be a solid test.

2.  December...eww.  Two separate four game road trips which include stops in New York, Cleveland, Orlando, Miami, Dallas and San Antonio.  At least they have another X-mas day game at home!

3.  January...keeps on rolling.  After one hell of a December, the Blazers will need a break in January, and it doesn't look like they'll get one.  The first match-up with the defending Champion Lakers happens, plus Boston, Cleveland, and Orlando.  Ouch.

4.  The rest of the season is "make or break" time.  After December and January, the season opens right up with a ton of favorable games for Portland.  Sure, they have 2 more games with the Lakers and one with Boston at home, but they also have a handful of bottom feeder games.  Sacramento 3 times and Oklahoma City twice.

No one expects next season to be easy, especially since the big dogs in the NBA all got better in the off-season.  November should really set the tone as to what we can expect from this young team with its new point guard.  If they walk into December after struggling in month one, things could get ugly real fast.

About This Blog

This Portland Trail Blazers blog definitely isn't your basic "recap/report the news" kind of blog. We tend to lean a little to the sporadic and unsystematic side of this young and sexy basketball team. Oh, and you'll definitely see a lot of Blazer Dancer action around here, so bring your bucket of ice.
